Perjury Case Against Ex-Broward Superintendent Being Heard Today

A panel of the 4th District Court of Appeals hearing arguments on the state’s challenge to the dismissal of a perjury indictment against former Broward Superintendent Robert Runcie. Attorney Alison Preston says when someone commits perjury before a statewide grand jury it compromises the integrity of their own proceedings. Runcie’s attorney says the dismissal should be upheld because the indictment came from testimony occurring exclusively in one judicial circuit. The statewide grand jury was impaneled in 2019 to investigate school safety issues post Parkland.
