South Floridians brace for another rainy, hot week in September

South Floridians are in for another hot and rainy week ahead, though still spared from any major storm activity. And Monday’s development of Tropical Storm Francine in the Gulf of Mexico isn’t expected to bring any extra rain to South Florida.

For the first half of the week, National Weather Service Miami meteorologist Chris Fisher said rain chances will hover around 50% to 75%, with storms most likely in the afternoon and early evening. Those chances will diminish to about 40% to 50% during the second half of the week, he said.

The 40% to 50% range is more of the rain norm for this time of year, Fisher said. Temperatures will remain in the lower 90s most of the week with ‘feels-like’ temps in the 105 to 108 range. A heat advisory was triggered Monday morning for Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

The weather service has categorized most of South Florida under a “significant” excessive heat risk, which is how likely someone is to contract a heat-related illness if spending a lot of time outside.
