Florida man buys Gold Rush Limited ticket at Wawa, wins $1 million, takes lump sum

Orange County: One of your neighbors came into some money recently.

Efren Villamar Herrera of Orlando paid $20 for a Gold Rush Limited scratch-off game in April 2023, and claimed a million-dollar prize, according to a release Monday from the Florida Lottery .

Herrera, 56, went for the one-time, lump-sum payout of $795,000. He bought his ticket at a Wawa, located at 3100 South Orange Avenue in Orlando. The retailer received a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket, lottery officials said.

About the Gold Rush Limited scratch-off game

According to lottery data , 89 people have won $1 million in this game since 2021 and 29 have won the top prize of $5 million. Most recently, an as-yet-unnamed someone bought a ticket at Key Food Supermarket in Kissimmee and won a million on Aug. 27, 2024.

The game’s overall odds of winning something are 1-in-2.65, the Florida Lottery says. The odds of winning a million dollars are 1 in 756,000, the odds of winning the $5 million are 1 in 2,362,500.
