Pompano Beach Shooting Shocks Community as Detectives Hunt for Answers

Detectives from the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) Homicide Unit are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in a parking lot in Pompano Beach.

At approximately 4:58 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to reports of a disturbance and possible shooting at the RaceTrac gas station located at 599 W. Atlantic Blvd. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found 37-year-old Brian Semil suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead.

BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units were dispatched to the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Semil attempted to forcibly enter a vehicle occupied by a mother and her children. Three males intervened to prevent him from gaining access to the vehicle. During the ensuing altercation, one of these individuals discharged a firearm, striking Semil. All three intervenors and several witnesses remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators.
