Hingle first garnered critical acclaim in 1953 for his role in End as a Man on Broadway, where his performance was hailed as “first-rate” by The New York Herald Tribune. His Broadway success continued with roles in Tennessee Williams’ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and the Pulitzer Prize-winning J.B., directed by Elia Kazan.
According to IMDB, In a tragic turn of events, Hingle suffered a life-altering accident when he fell down an elevator shaft in his apartment building.
