There’s some tough news coming out of Miami International Airport (MIA) this month. Eulen Aviation, a company that’s been handling international security services for American Airlines at MIA, is set to lay off 87 employees by the end of November.
According to a WARN notice filed with the state, Eulen Aviation lost its contract with American Airlines, leading to the decision to cut jobs. The layoffs will impact international security agents, leads, and supervisors, as stated by Maite Parsi, Eulen’s director of labor relations. She also mentioned that the company had to make this sudden move due to “unforeseeable business circumstances,” which didn’t allow them to give the standard 60-day notice.
The affected workers are part of SEIU Local 32BJ, a union that represents service employees. Because of their union status, these employees have what’s known as “bumping rights.” This means more senior workers might have the chance to take over roles from junior staff at other Eulen Aviation operations.
