Severed Head Washes Ashore On Florida Beach

An investigation has been launched after a severed human head washed ashore Key Biscayne beach Tuesday (November 12) morning, the New York Post reports.

The Miami-Dade Police Department responded to multiple reports of a human head being found on the sand at around 8:40 a.m. A worker raking the beach initially discovered the head.

Police are working with the Medical Examiner’s Office as part of an ongoing investigation to determine the person’s identity as it’s currently unclear whether the head belonged to a man or woman. A spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Police Department said it was too early in the investigation to determine whether the decapitation was linked to any other recent cases in the area, which includes a teenager who went missing just off the coast of nearby Miami Beach on Sunday (November 10).

“We have seen all things here but nothing like what was found this morning, the head of a person. It makes us scared to go to the beach that we love,” said Bahman Amini , who’s lived in a nearby condominium building for 40 years, via CBS News Miami .
