DANIA BEACH, Florida — A man riding an electric scooter has died days after a crash in Dania Beach, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred on Dec. 22, when the scooter collided with a vehicle on Stirling Road.Detectives from the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating the fatal crash that claimed the life of 60-year-old James Small, of Dania Beach. The crash happened shortly before 4 p.m. on Dec. 22, when Gregory Ornstein-Bowers, a 39-year-old from Fort Lauderdale, was driving a 2024 Hyundai Tucson westbound on Stirling Road. Small was traveling southbound across the road on an electric scooter.Ornstein-Bowers reported to detectives that he did not see Small until he was directly in front of him and attempted to swerve to avoid the collision. Despite his efforts, the vehicle struck the left side of the scooter, ejecting Small into the center lane.Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported Small to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased on Dec. 25. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, stated the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
