Hollywood, FL – A tragic accident on southbound Interstate 95 in Hollywood resulted in the death of a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Road Ranger early on New Year’s Day.
The fatal accident occurred at approximately 3:37 a.m. near Hollywood Boulevard and involved five vehicles, including two marked FHP patrol cars and a Road Ranger service truck.
The Road Ranger, a 28-year-old Hispanic man from Pembroke Pines, was fatally injured while standing between the patrol cars.
His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
According to a FHP spokesperson, the crash began when a 2012 white BMW X6, driven by a 45-year-old woman from Miami, collided with the rear of a 2006 Honda Accord in one of the lanes of I-95.
The BMW then veered into the express lane, striking a concrete wall before colliding with the Road Ranger’s service truck.
This impact caused a chain reaction involving the two marked FHP Dodge Charger patrol vehicles.
Both troopers from Davie who were in the FHP vehicles sustained non-life threatening injuries.
