Sunrise Man Charged with First-Degree Murder After Fatally Shooting Mother During Mushroom-Induced Hallucination

A tragic incident occurred in Sunrise, Florida, where 29-year-old Jorge Omar Torres has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting his mother while under the influence of psychedelic mushrooms. The incident took place at their home in the Waterside Village Condos off Weston Road, according to NBC Miami.

On the evening of Friday last week, police responded to reports of gunfire and a man behaving erratically. Upon arriving, they found blood seeping from under an apartment door. Inside, they discovered the victim at the front door. According to the arrest report, Torres was found naked in a neighbor’s yard and detained. In an interview, he admitted to taking mushrooms he purchased for $60, followed by marijuana, which led to hallucinations and caused him to brandish a gun at his sibling and fatally shoot his mother, whom he saw as the “bad guy,” as reported by WSVN.
