A high-speed chase involving a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper and a driver in a Ford Focus turned fatal last evening in Plantation, Broward County. The chase began on Florida’s Turnpike and ended with a wrong-way collision that killed the driver of the pursued vehicle and injured several others.
According to Local 10, the driver, whose identity has not been released, was seen committing multiple traffic violations, prompting FHP to begin the pursuit. The driver exited at University Drive. The car then sideswiped two vehicles and crashed into a third near University Drive and Marcano Boulevard just after 7 p.m., according to FHP.
The crash involved four cars in total. The suspect was pronounced dead, while the other drivers survived, with some sustaining only minor injuries, as reported by WSVN. After the crash, the suspect’s car began to smoke and catch fire, prompting immediate rescue efforts.
