Broward County, Florida – Mosquito control efforts are ramping up in southern Broward County as officials prepare to launch a targeted larvicide spraying operation across several neighborhoods. Weather allowing, Broward County’s Mosquito Control Section will use truck-mounted sprayers nightly from May 5 to May 10, 2025 to assist in reducing the spread of disease-carrying mosquitoes.
Spraying planned between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. each night will direct the operation toward particular areas of Hollywood, Miramar, Pembroke Park, and West Park. Targeting the larvae of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus—two species known to transmit diseases including dengue, yellow fever, and chikungunya—the proactive technique seeks to stop the mosquito population before it reaches adulthood.
Often found in daily items like birdbaths, plant saucers, and even ornamental landscape plants like bromeliads and traveler’s palms, these mosquitoes lay their eggs in tiny pools of stagnant water.
