The City of Fort Lauderdale has embarked on a comprehensive initiative to significantly upgrade the stormwater system in the Progresso Village neighborhood. The project, helmed by the City in collaboration with Man-Con, Inc., is set to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the stormwater infrastructure with a suite of improvements. These upgrades are intended to confront the very real and growing challenges posed by climate change and increased rainfall events, with the constructions having kicked off promptly on April 1.
Residents within the Progresso Village area are expected to navigate altered traffic routes and road closures effecively fromnext Tuesday to May 23, in particular along NW 6th Street / Sistrunk Boulevard. This key passageway will only remain open to local traffic as workers are set to install crucial drainage infrastructure. Details shared by the City emphasize the importance of the schedule, subject to shifts due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, but this is an instance where the city will be forced to intermittently split up traffic. Through traffic is being rerouted via NW 4th Street and NW 7th Street at NW 7th Avenue and Andrews Avenue, where traffic control staff will be on hand to aid with property access.
In line with the project’s ambitious scope, a whopping 21,000 feet of stormwater pipe and a hundred drainage structures are to be installed, alongside a new stormwater pump station. The City also plans to reconstruct swales, relocate water and sewer lines, and overhaul driveways, sidewalks, and pavement.
