Flies landing on food, filth and food violations shut down Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza in South Florida

Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza in Coral Gables was ordered shut on May 7 after state inspectors uncovered 28 violations.

Among the most serious: More than 30 live flies were found landing on food, including a slicer used to prep eggplant and pizza dough on a back kitchen table. Improper food temperatures were also noted — pasta and chicken wings were measured at a risky 66°F.

Inspectors also reported “objectionable odors” at the pizza station, mold-like buildup on kitchen equipment, dirty floors and ceilings, and repeat violations for soiled food-contact surfaces…
