Severe weather causes damage in south Broward

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A severe weather system led to damage in southern Broward County, lifting a small plane at North Perry Airport and downing trees Friday evening.

Pembroke Pines police said the severe weather affected the area between Palm and Northwest 72nd avenues, near Pines Boulevard. The department called the storm an apparent “small tornado,” though meteorologists from the Local 10 Weather Authority said no tornado formed.

“Several electrical wires and trees have been downed, and power may be temporarily disrupted to some homes,” Pembroke Pines Police Department spokesperson Amanda Conwell said in an email to local media outlets. “One plane was damaged at North Perry Airport, causing a momentary gas leak. There are no reported injuries related to the storm.”…
