After more than 25 years under the protection of the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Pompano Beach is counting the cost of re-establishing its own independent police force, a move that could prove even pricier than sticking with the Sheriff’s Office.
The cost of staying put has been growing dramatically over the past three years, from $53 million in fiscal year 2022 to $63 million in fiscal year 2025, according to the city’s budget.
And Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony is asking the cities under the agency’s watch to contribute even more to provide patrol services to their neighborhoods. Pompano Beach is being asked to kick in $72,817,524 next year…
