As Progresso Village embarks on a stormwater infrastructure overhaul, local residents and drivers in Fort Lauderdale should prepare for traffic disruptions in the coming days. Construction, which kicked off on April 1, has seen the installation of 62 drainage structures and over 12,000 feet of stormwater pipe, according to the City of Fort Lauderdale’s recent update.
With progress comes temporary inconvenience. From Wednesday, June 18 through Friday, June 20, NW 6th Street, also known as Sistrunk Boulevard, will become a local traffic-only zone from NW 7th Avenue to Andrews Avenue. This closure, scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. on the 18th and conclude by 6 p.m. on the 20th, is due to the installation of critical drainage infrastructure at the key intersection of NW 6th Street/Sistrunk Boulevard and NW 5th Avenue. Motorists will therefore be rerouted to neighboring NW 4th and NW 7th Streets to navigate the area.
Drivers should look out for detour signs and be mindful of traffic control personnel who will aid with property access amidst the ongoing work. The city has urged all to drive cautiously through the construction site.
