Aide accused of stealing $30k coin collection, jewelry from Boynton Beach couple

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A home health aide has been arrested after being accused of multiple felonies after investigators say he stole a rare coin collection and other valuables worth tens of thousands of dollars from a 65-year-old man he was hired to care for.

According to a probable cause affidavit from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, 34-year-old Alden Jerome Johnson was hired in March 2025 to assist a recovering hospital patient at his residence on Great Falls Circle. Johnson worked weekdays, caring for the victim whose wife reported they began noticing valuables disappearing over the following months.

Among the stolen items: a historic coin collection valued at $30,000, including silver coins from the 1800s and early 1900s, stored in specialized blue collector books inside a locked bedroom cabinet, according to the probable cause affidavit. A separate key, kept atop a dresser, was also reported missing. The victim’s wife also reported gold jewelry and a Louis Vuitton handbag missing from her own mirrored chest in the master bedroom.
