Authorities aren’t completely sure why a Florida man was driving his semi truck down a rural Texas road. And they haven’t made any public guesses as to why he leapt out of the cab of the completely operational big rig. But one thing’s for sure, his stunt didn’t end well.
Osvaldo Fernandez was a 39-year-old truck driver from Hialeah, Florida. On June 25th, he was driving his 2017 Peterbilt through rural Texas. He was rolling down County Road D5100. Just before 11 AM he opened the door and jumped out of the cab.
Just because action stars jump from moving vehicles in almost every movie doesn’t mean it’s a very survivable stunt. The myth is that if you can hit the ground and roll, you’ll tumble along at 60 mph and eventually roll to a stop. But if that were true, tumbling off a motorcycle wouldn’t ever kill anyone. Moving vehicles go far too fast for the human body. And in Fernandez’s case, he had more than speed to deal with. He had the trailer chasing his truck…
