Free school lunches for everyone are officially a thing of the past in Broward County Public Schools. Pandemic funding from the federal government has run out, so now parents must apply for free or reduced-price lunches, which is the pre-pandemic policy.
Some kids, though, will fall through the cracks. Either they don’t qualify for free lunch, or their parents will forget to apply. So to help those students, the school board on Tuesday voted unanimously to give each school in the district $500 to alleviate any lunch issues students may have.
