New monument serves as reminder of BSO deputy’s unsolved murder

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Pompano Beach hosted a ceremony Tuesday in honor of a 51-year-old slain deputy whose murder remained unsolved nearly 18 years later.

Broward Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Chris Reyka was killed while on duty on Aug. 10, 2007, in the parking lot of the Walgreens at 960 South Powerline Road.

According to BSO, Reyka, a veteran with an 18-year career in law enforcement, was checking on two cars when he was fatally shot at about 1:20 a.m…
