‘I am so sorry’: 20-year-old guilty of body slamming South Florida doctor seeks forgiveness

A 20-year-old man has pleaded guilty to a violent attack on a Miami Beach doctor that was caught on hospital surveillance cameras.

Ventura Pérez del Castillo admitted in court Tuesday to body-slamming Dr. Steven Silvers, an OBGYN at Mount Sinai Medical Center, during a confrontation in 2024. The incident left Dr. Silvers with serious physical injuries and lasting emotional trauma.

“Your Honor, I still to this day suffer from the physical assault and the mental anguish,” Dr. Silvers told the court on Tuesday before his attacker was sentenced. “What did I do to deserve this brutal beating except care? I did nothing that could ever excuse or justify this,” he added.

Court records show the attack stemmed from a dispute over medication. Pérez del Castillo’s mother, Carolina Pérez, testified that she was upset after receiving a narcotics prescription from Dr. Silvers. Her son then confronted the doctor at the hospital…
