Miami Beach Man Showing Off Rolex and Gun Accidentally Shoots Woman During Condo Gathering, Police Say

MIAMI BEACH, Florida — A night of champagne, conversation, and a luxury watch pitch ended in chaos when a Miami Beach man allegedly shot a woman inside his condo while showing off a pistol, according to police.

Rolex Pitch Turns Dangerous

The suspect, Leonardo Amezcua, 52, is accused of inviting a woman he met at a local bar — which she co-owns — back to his condo at the Mirador apartments on West Avenue in the early morning hours of July 19. Police say Amezcua was discussing the sale of his Rolex watch when he decided to retrieve a pistol to impress the woman and her friends.

According to witnesses, Amezcua told them he had “something cool to show,” before returning with a silver and black firearm. Moments later, the gun fired unexpectedly, striking the woman as horrified guests rushed her out of the apartment.

Guests Say Incident Was Reckless

Video obtained by WSVN shows guests appraising the Rolex before the shooting occurred. One friend’s husband later told investigators the gun discharge was “very negligent and reckless,” especially since Amezcua appeared intoxicated. He reportedly wrestled the gun away and threw it toward the front door before leaving with his wife and the victim.

One witness told police that in the moments after the shot, all she could remember was “blood, blood, blood, blood.”

Standoff and Arrest

Police arrived around 7:30 a.m. to find Amezcua locked inside his condo. After ignoring officers’ knocks for nearly half an hour, SWAT and hostage negotiators were called in. Amezcua eventually surrendered just after 8 a.m.
