Fort Lauderdale fire crews’ quick response saved residents and a young dog named Pandora after an apartment fire broke out yesterday. The fire, reported just before 10 a.m., took place in a unit of a multi-unit apartment building located at 1132 Northwest 5th Court, with smoke quickly infiltrating adjacent dwellings, according to 7News.
Upon their arrival five minutes after the 911 call Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue was met with smoke billowing from the building’s eaves, and it was here, where within a neighboring apartment, crews discovered the crated Pandora, struggling amid the smoke that invaded her space. NBC Miami reported that firefighters administered oxygen to the pit bull mix after her rescue, and she, fortunately, is now said to be “doing well.”
“The dog didn’t have much longer with the level of smoke that was in there. It would’ve suffocated,” FLFR Assistant Chief Tim Heiser told 7News, underlining the urgency of their intervention.
