Broward County Residents Invited to Secure Document Shredding and Safe Medication Disposal Event

Residents of Broward County looking to securely dispose of sensitive documents and safely toss unused medications should mark their calendars for this Saturday. The Broward Sheriff’s Office is hosting a Shred-A-Thon event on November 1, from 10 am to 1 pm at the Charles F. Dodge City Center.

The free event is restricted to personal documents only, with a maximum of two boxes per vehicle. The box size limit is not to exceed 16 inches in length, 12 inches in width, and 12 inches in height. In an effort to also tackle the issues of medication disposal, Operation Medicine Cabinet will concurrently be available for individuals to safely turn in their unused, unwanted, or expired prescription medications. And while they might not be able to offer a solution for every prescription, participants will receive a $5 gift card, while supplies last, as a thank you for contributing to the safety of the community, as per the city’s announcement.

It’s a simple equation: shredded documents mean reduced risk of identity theft, and proper medication disposal means fewer drugs in the wrong hands or polluting our water supply. The Broward Sheriff’s Office emphasizes this dual advantage as they encourage locals to take part in the event. Medications will be accepted with no questions asked, but it’s important to note that needles or sharps won’t be collected at this time…
