The Fort Lauderdale City Commission has appointed Shari L. McCartney as the new City Attorney. Her appointment was approved on Tuesday night. McCartney will begin her duties in December 2025. She has more than 30 years of legal experience in government affairs, regulatory compliance, and local government law. She is currently a director at Tripp Scott, where she works in public entity and education law. She has represented clients at various levels of government.
McCartney is a longtime resident of Fort Lauderdale. She has served as Mayor and Commissioner of Oakland Park and as Senior Counsel to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General in Washington, D.C.
