Coral Springs, FL – Authorities say a South Florida man is facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly attacking his elderly mother with a frying pan because he no longer wanted to care for her following her early dementia diagnosis.
Police say 53-year-old Keith Evan Woodward tried to beat and smother his 82-year-old mother inside their Coral Springs home on Sunday morning, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Investigators report that the violence began around 11:20 a.m. when Woodward and his mother were attempting to locate a caretaker’s phone number. After the conversation, the woman went to rest in her bedroom. Police say Woodward then grabbed a frying pan from the kitchen, walked into the room, and began striking her repeatedly.
The affidavit explains that Woodward admitted he wanted to kill his mother because of her “early dementia and need for constant assistance.”
