Unlicensed contractor left elderly victim who paid $39K with ‘non-functioning’ kitchen: Cops

A Hialeah man accused of working as an unlicensed contractor was arrested after he allegedly was paid over $39,000 for remodeling work an elderly customer’s home then gutted the kitchen and left it “non-functioning,” police said.

Carlos Cabrera, 34, was arrested Wednesday on charges of grand theft, exploitation of elderly, and engaging in contracting without a license, Miami-Dade jail records showed.

According to an arrest report, in February of 2023 Cabrera entered a contract to remodel a kitchen and bath at a home in Miami Springs.

He was paid $28,846, $5,850, and $4,680 with separate checks that year, for a total of over $39,000, the report said…
