A Florida couple has been arrested in Pennsylvania in connection with a multi-state credit card fraud scheme affecting victims from Alabama to Massachusetts. Authorities identified the suspects as Olivia Jean Baptiste, 24, of West Park, and Michael Rampal, 29, of Fort Lauderdale.
According to reports, the pair used phone spoofing to impersonate bank employees, deceiving victims into revealing personal banking information. In South Jersey alone, investigators identified at least 14 victims, with more than $20,000 stolen, and authorities expect the total to rise as the investigation continues.
Detective Sgt. Nicholas Pasculli noted the scam involved prolonged phone calls, sometimes lasting two to three hours, during which the suspects manipulated victims into disclosing sensitive information, including debit card PINs.
