Florida Man Robs Bank for $600, Gets Outsmarted by Hidden Money Tracker and Three PIT Maneuvers

A Florida man thought he had pulled off a quick payday at a Plantation TD Bank. What he actually pulled off was one of the more chaotic, self-defeating getaway attempts in recent South Florida memory, complete with a handwritten robbery note, a bag of bait cash, a mysterious passenger, and not one, not two, but three police PIT maneuvers before his red Kia Soul finally met its match in the form of a cement wall.

Tommy Duwayne Dennis, 56, now faces federal bank robbery charges after FBI and local law enforcement connected the dots on a robbery at TD Bank located at 1 N State Road in Plantation, Florida. According to an FBI arrest report, Dennis walked into the bank, handed a teller a note that read something along the lines of “this is a robbery, give me the money, and no one will get hurt,” collected $600, and then proceeded to make every possible wrong decision on the way out the door.

Dennis later told authorities that he had been using crack cocaine throughout the day and that his impaired state led him to, in his own words, “make a mistake.” That level of self-awareness is almost admirable in hindsight, though it did not do him much good while he was in the middle of a multi-agency police chase through Broward County…
