DEERFIELD BEACH, Florida — A serious child abuse investigation is underway in Deerfield Beach after an 8-year-old girl was found with multiple injuries, leading to the arrest of her stepmother and raising concerns about the child’s safety and well-being. The case came to light when school staff noticed visible signs of harm and alerted authorities.

School Counselor’s Alert Triggers Investigation

According to arrest documents, the situation began when an elementary school counselor observed the student arriving with visible injuries. The report described the child as coming in “with two black eyes, a large contusion on her forehead, dried blood coming from her ears and multiple scratches on her arms and neck.”

The counselor immediately reported the situation to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, prompting deputies to respond and initiate an investigation.

Child Shares Allegations With Investigators

Deputies said the girl identified her stepmother, Melirose Joncky, as responsible for her injuries. She also indicated that a previous arm injury, for which she was already in a cast, had been caused by the same person.

According to a BSO arrest report, the girl told investigators that Joncky “pushed her down to the ground, pulled her by her feet, and forced her onto her stomach” and while on the ground, “walked on her back, jumping up and down, causing her pain.”…
