“Robbery by sudden snatching”: Florida man hit with felony charge after viral clash with 13-year-old boy riding e-bike inside gated Boca community

A viral confrontation between a Florida man and a 13-year-old boy riding an e-bike inside a gated Boca Raton community has now moved beyond neighborhood arguments and online debate, with prosecutors filing a felony charge in a case that began as a misdemeanor.

CBS 12 News reporter Katie Bente reported that 62-year-old Mitchell Schuman, of Boca Raton, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail after the confrontation inside the Lotus community in West Boca Raton, where video showed adults surrounding the teen during an argument tied to alleged reckless e-bike riding.

According to Bente’s report, Schuman is now facing charges that include robbery by sudden snatching without a firearm or weapon, battery, petit theft and criminal mischief. The most serious of those charges, robbery by sudden snatching, is a third-degree felony under Florida law.
