Sarasota County man sentenced for fatal DUI crash

Mark Barcia of North Port was sentenced to 18 years in prison for DUI Manslaughter, DUI with serious bodily injury and two counts of DUI with Personal Injury for a fatal crash that occurred on New Year’s Eve, 2019, according to a press release from state attorney’s office.

Barcia slammed his Ford F-250 truck into the back of an Uber vehicle at the intersection of Toledo Blade and Woodhaven in North Port, in southern Sarasota County, killing 61-year-old David Flick of Port Charlotte. Flick was a passenger at the time of the crash and died at the scene. The other occupants of the Uber vehicle were also injured.

Prosecutors and the defense stipulated that both occupants of the Ford F250 were under the influence of alcohol and their respective blood alcohol levels exceeded the legal limit of .08, the state attorney’s office said…
