Despite rain chances, region remains hot

RUSKIN — The National Weather Service of Tampa Bay forecasts Charlotte County’s heat index to exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit during the week. Forecaster Jennifer Hubbard said the Saharan Air Layer arriving this weekend may cause temperatures to increase.

The NWS forecasts a 93% chance of 0.1 inches of rain between until July 9. Although precipitation can cool temperatures, the ongoing drought causes heat to remain high.
