‘It’s overwhelming grief’: Woman set to speak at Military Heritage Museum 9/11 remembrance recalls losing daughter on Flight 77

CAPE CORAL — Marion Kminek recalls surprising families during a military Bereavement & Grief Support counseling session following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

“We were going around the table talking about the people we lost, and everybody was saying, ‘They were an angel!’” Kminek said. “They got to me, and I said, ‘She wasn’t any angel.’”

Kminek’s daughter, Mari-Rae Sopper, was aboard American Airlines Flight 77 when it was crashed into the Pentagon. Sopper was moving across the country to be a gymnastics coach at the University of California, Santa Barbara…
