Blue Mass honors Suncoast first responders

VENICE, Fla. (WWSB) – A Blue Mass was held Sunday at Our Lady of Lourdes in Venice to honor and pray for first responders from Sarasota and Charlotte counties, including those who died in the line of duty.

Mass held on 9/11 anniversary weekend

The Blue Mass took place on the weekend marking 25 years since the September 11 attacks. The service was meant to honor the first responders who ran toward the attacks on the nation 25 years ago, and the first responders who run toward danger on the Suncoast every day.

Sheila Sullivan, a first responder, reflected on her service.

“It’s a blessing to be able to work with dogs and work with people who have the same community minded spirit that I do in order to give back. It’s really… it’s a family… it’s my family,” Sullivan said…
