Charlotte and Sarasota counties are among the recipients of grants totaling $550,000 to support long-term recovery efforts following Hurricane Idalia.
Eleven counties will each receive $50,000 in Florida Disaster Fund recovery grants, according to an announcement from Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office.
The funds will be distributed to 11 organizations that are designated as long-term recovery groups.
“LTRGs help to coordinate long-term recovery services within the communities and connect Floridians with available programs,” the news release stated.
Charlotte’s designated LTRG is the Gulf Coast Partnership. Angela Hogan, the organization’s CEO, told The Daily Sun they just found out about the grant award Wednesday morning and are formulating an action plan.
Sarasota’s LTRG is overseen by the United Way of South Sarasota County.
The Florida Disaster Fund is the state’s private fund to help counties recover from disaster.
“We will continue to provide support for Floridians as they recover following Hurricane Idalia,” DeSantis stated in the news release. “Hurricane recovery does not happen in just the days and weeks following a storm, and we will support impacted communities every step of the way.”
