PUNTA GORDA — Waterford Estates residents are reaching out to county officials for help mitigating noise from a nearby Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office shooting range.
Several residents made their concerns known during the public input session of the Charlotte County Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday.
William Cross, one of the residents, said residents could heard a barrage of “high-powered rifles” being used with no insulation to disguise it Monday night.
“It’s an unbearable situation that’s going on over there,” he said during his public comment period.
Another resident, Shirley Stewart, said the noise was reaching high enough levels to cause distress to kids, pets, and those living with post-traumatic stress disorder, especially the elderly.
The noise was present before, she noted, and some residents did sign documents recognizing that the shooting range was nearby when they moved in.
“Now Ian came in and destroyed any buffer we had – understand that,” she added in her remarks.
