Fatal Crash Claims Ohio Couple Near Ice Cream Shop

By Richard Luthmann

An Ohio couple, 83 and 81, died in a three-car crash in Iona, Florida, near Love Boat Ice Cream. It happened Thursday night on San Carlos Boulevard.

Florida Highway Patrol reports that the couple’s SUV was leaving the ice cream shop. They turned left into the path of a northbound car, driven by a 19-year-old from Fort Myers. The SUV was hit on the passenger side.

The SUV then spun and hit another car. A 35-year-old Fort Myers man was driving this car, waiting to turn into the ice cream lot.

Both in the SUV died at the scene. This year, six people have been killed in Lee County crashes.
