A 34-year-old Fort Myers man is dead after his car crashed with another vehicle near an Estero outlet mall.

The wreck happened around 10:30 p.m. Saturday along Via Coconut Point, near Via Sicilia Way, near the Target store at Miromar Outlets, 8040 Mediterranean Drive.

Troopers said the first car, driven by an uninjured 30-year-old Fort Myers man, was traveling north on Via Coconut Point, south of Via Sicilia Way, on the left lane, while the victim’s car was ahead.

The uninjured driven began to pass the victim, and attempted to make a lane change onto the right lane, troopers said. Authorities said that in doing so, the passing car collided with the driver’s side of the victim’s car.

Troopers said the driver died on scene. He’s at least one of seven fatalities stemming from Lee County crashes this year.
