One of the better memories I have is taking my son Shane to the West Virginia State fair when he was about 10 years old.
It was a long drive from our home and the motels were full, but we were lucky to find a room to rent at a big home near Lewisburg, where the fair is staged every year. One of the big draws was a concert by the Beach Boys.
I remember we were in the front row because there were no reserve seats and when the gates opened I told Shane to run as fast as he could to get good seats. It was a fun time.
This weekend I took my grandson, Carden, to the Charlotte County Fair. It will be another memory for me.
If you haven’t been to the fair yet, plan to go. There seems to be more food vendors and more merchandise booths than I remember in the past few years.
Carden is a 4-year-old with a motor that does not quit. I was able to slow him down for a minute when we first got inside the fair so I could take advantage of the mini-donut booth that is the first thing you come to (unless you stop by the barn to see the farm animals).
