Cape Coral pinpoints traffic woes; plans include roundabouts, speed revisions

Miles and miles of sidewalks, new bike and walking paths, 10 new roundabouts, and even a water taxi are dreams on Cape Coral’s horizon that the City Council will consider to address worsening traffic conditions this year.

The Multimodal Transportation Master Plan is the first of its kind for the city and has been in development since March.

“This plan, while we are still looking at roads and making recommendations for road improvements, we really focus on some of the measures like biking, walking, transit that really have not been paid attention to as closely,” said Ned Baier, project manager with Volkert, Inc.

More than 249 recommendations have been made that include the likes of intersection improvements, lane repurposing in south Cape Coral, implementing mobility fees, partnering with LeeTran for a mobility on-demand transit, and implementing a speed limit reduction program in residential and school areas.
