Teenager Arrested For Using Screwdriver and Cable to Steal Car

Fort Myers, FL – A 17-year-old Southwest Florida teen has been arrested for allegedly using a screwdriver and cable to steal a 2019 black Kia Forte.

According to police, 17-year-old Matthew Trillingham was arrested on charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle and driving without a license after stealing a 2019 black Kia Forte from a Fort Myers driveway.

The victim told police she parked the Kia in the driveway of the residence with a spare set of keys left inside the car before it was stolen.

After the vehicle was reported missing, deputies from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and observed two KIA vehicles acting suspiciously on Concourse Drive and Gladiolus.

A traffic stop on one of the vehicles revealed a trove of incriminating evidence, including a cell phone, screwdriver, black ski mask, half a USB cable, and a marijuana vape.

Trillingham was taken into custody following the discovery of the evidence.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the submission of the phone into evidence, awaiting a future search warrant to delve further into the case.
