North Port food truck Allen’s BBQ wins best chili award

NORTH PORT — Allen’s BBQ & Seafood, a North Port-based food truck, took the trophy for having the best chili at the recent Charlotte Harbor Chili, Beer & Music Festival.

At the festival, held Jan. 27 in Punta Gorda, Allen’s chili got the better of seven other eateries that were also in contention for the prize.

While they are proud of their win and the trophy that comes with it, co-founders Allen McLeod and LaNeatha Daily say their customers come first.

“We serve every customer with love, if there’s a problem we fix it because that’s what families do,” Daily said.

The business operates between Hillsborough and Cranberry boulevards most days.

The Allen’s menu includes pulled pork sandwiches, chicken leg quarters, ribs, baked mac and cheese, collard greens and baked beans. They also sell seafood such as shrimp and crab.

“We saw our community needed the best barbecue and seafood and town, so we brought it,” said Allen McLeod, the other co-founder and husband to Daily.

McLeod is the pitmaster and Daily makes all the sides, seasonings and sauces. Each dish is seasoned with their own recipe.
