Junior League donates school supply boxes to school for students in need

Volunteers from the Junior League of Fort Myers delivered big boxes full of school supplies to three elementary schools on Friday.

The school district suggested that the Junior League give the supplies to Orange River Elementary and Manatee Elementary, both in Fort Myers, and Sunshine Elementary in Lehigh Acres.

The boxes contained pencils, pens, cleaning wipes, highlighters, index cards, scissors, binders, backpacks and glue sticks that the schools can give to students in need.

The Junior League volunteers waited until the second semester to give out the supplies because most school supply drives are held at the beginning of the school year. By mid-year, some students need new supplies.

About 30 Junior League members collected about $1,900 worth of supplies.

The Junior League is also donating two large bags of supplies to the social workers at the Lee County School District office.
