Florida is on high alert as the National Weather Service warns of a significant tornado threat looming over the state this Sunday. According to the latest forecasts, isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to sweep across parts of the Florida Peninsula from late morning through early evening. The alert emphasizes the possibility of a brief tornado or two, sparking concerns across several densely populated areas.

The “Day 2 Tornado Risk” advisory outlines a 5% risk zone covering 7,525 square miles, impacting an estimated population of 3,427,206. Major cities within this high-risk area include Miami, Hialeah, Fort Lauderdale, Pembroke Pines, and Hollywood, FL. Residents in these regions are advised to remain vigilant and prepare for the potential severe weather conditions.

Furthermore, a broader area encompassing 37,920 square miles faces a 2% tornado risk, affecting over 13.5 million residents. This larger zone includes major population centers such as Tampa, St. Petersburg, Orlando, and Coral Springs, FL. While the risk is lower, the extensive area and significant population involved underscore the need for widespread caution and preparedness.
