Tornado watch issued

PORT CHARLOTTE — The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for Charlotte and Lee counties early Sunday.

The watch, issued at 7:12 a.m., lasts until about 2 p.m. Sunday, according to a social media post from Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

A watch means conditions are right for a tornado to form. A warning means a tornado has been verified as spotted either by an eyewitness or radar.

Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda are both under the watch conditions.

The watch also includes North Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Lehigh Acres, Fort Myers and Bonita Springs.
