Two swimmers rescued, search continued Tuesday afternoon for third swimmer off Sanibel

A missing swimmer Sanibel Island prompted the response of local and state authorities Tuesday afternoon.

Officer Bradley Johnson, spokesperson for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, said they are assisting the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Sanibel Police with the search for a missing swimmer at Blind Pass Beach.

While Sanibel police is leading the search, Jessie Santero, spokesperson for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, said they are assisting with multiple marine assets and aviation units.

Eric Jackson, spokesperson for the city, said two swimmers were rescued while the search continued for a third swimmer.

The two swimmers’ condition remained unknown Tuesday afternoon.
