North Fort Myers pizza joint suddenly reopens after surprising closing six weeks ago

Exactly six weeks after suddenly closing, Grandma Penny’s is back.

“I didn’t want to believe we were closed ,” said Carole Dean, who co-owns the pizza and pasta restaurant in North Fort Myers with her husband DJ and his mother Terri. “I didn’t do anything for five weeks after we closed. Then this just happened.”

According to Carole, the community was the driving force behind the surprising reopening on Friday, Sept. 6.

“Every day we were closed, I had someone reaching out — especially through Facebook — saying how much they had loved it or wished we would reopen,” she said. “I live close by and would always see regulars at Publix. They motivated me even more. I felt the love from the community.”

Count Rob and Kelly Hanna as two of those loving customers.

Regulars for the past four or five years, the couple was there on reopening day.

“We had a feeling they would be back,” said Kelly, a big fan of Grandma Penny’s gluten-free pizza. “But certainly not this fast. We’re so glad they’re back.”
