The News-Press Athlete of the Week sponsored by Elevate Home Services winner for Aug. 26-31 was Bishop Verot bowler Mia Gasperini. The senior captured 17,649 votes or 42.2%. To be selected for the poll, Gasperini rolled a 187 to lead the Vikings in a win against Gateway.
Question: Why did you start bowling?
Gasperini: I started bowling because I wanted to just get involved with the sport, because I was busy with school in the years prior, and so I just had the free time this year and last year when I began bowling. My friends were on the team as well, and so I’ve known them for a while, so I just wanted to really just be there with them.

What’s been your favorite bowling memory so far?
Gasperini: I think it was (last year’s) districts, for the girls, because I feel like everyone was in such a good mood, and I just made so many memories and met so many new people.
